Extend Disk Volume in Windows 10 using disk management

Using a disk management tool, you can extend disk volume, which is unused and unallocated, without shutting down your computer and losing your data. Here are the steps explained to extend the volume of drive.

How to Extend Disk Volume?

To extend disk volume in Windows, follow these steps:

  1. Press the Windows key + X on your keyboard and select “Disk Management” from the menu that appears.
  2. In the Disk Management window, locate the disk volume that you want to extend.
  3. Right-click on the volume and select “Extend Volume” from the context menu.
  4. In the Extend Volume Wizard, click “Next” to proceed.
  5. Choose the amount of space you want to add to the volume in the “Select the amount of space in MB” field. You can either enter the amount manually or use the maximum available space.
  6. Click “Next” and then “Finish” to complete the process.
  7. Wait for the volume extension to be completed. This may take a few moments, depending on the size of the volume.

Note: Before extending a volume, make sure there is unallocated space available on the same disk. If there is no unallocated space, you may need to shrink an existing volume to create some.

That’s it! Your disk volume should now be extended in Windows.

Note : As the process explained you can also shrink the disk volume to reduce the partition size.
